Hello!
Our hard drive has crashed- containing family photos, including the birth of our second child. Ouch!
We sent it for repair and have been told that they need a "donor drive" of the same model.
I don't know much about this stuff... is that pretty standard? Will any other model work? I'm not having very much luck tracking this one down.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So the shop doesn't help you.
And that's why people come here.
So if you know nothing about the PCB
then POST some close up picture of your harddisk
and some close up of the PCB (the green board of the back of the harddisk)
For me, I want to see both side of it.
and see whether I can help you.
By the way, ask the shop, which part of the harddisk goes wrong.
