Hey everyone

I was playing a game the other day when my computer went to a blank blue screen and locked up. I went to reboot the computer, which I noticed was hotter than usual and it was no longer detecting the hard drive. I tried it on another computer and it said operating system not found. When I go to reinstall windows on the hard drive it says unknown disk a bunch of times in the box to select a partition. When I hit enter it comes up with,

A problem has been detected ad windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. The problem seems o be caused by the following file: setupdd.sys

Now my question is, what specifically is wrong with my hard drive? Is it compelety dead? Do I need to replace the logic board? I'm looking to recover any data I can rather than reinstall or repartition even though I can't currently do any of those either.

BIOS does not detect the drive either.

Brand new hard drive works fine in the same computer.

This problem sounds like the problem I am having with my computer. My dad bought me a replacement computer but I would still like to find out what is wrong with my old computer. I got a new hd for it and the bios detects the new hard drive. Still does not detect the old. Yet even with the new hard drive, I can't seem to install windows on it without getting errors like "can't copy such and such a file". Good luck to both of us, eh?
