|
|
Hi All,
I need some help with recovering a Seagate ST3500641AS HDD. The VCM chip got fried when it came in contact with the HDD encloure. Here are the details of my HDD.
Model: Seagate ST3500641AS 7200.9
Main Controller: MU52AB 100367026 VA486AB16ETR
PCB Rev: 100383409
P/N: 9BD148-033
FW Ver: 3.ADG
Date Code: 07164 Site Code: AMK
I am looking at few options here.
1. Get a new PCB that exactly matches the dead one
2. Get any Seagate HDD with a VCM chip similar to 980L SH6960B E and replace. I am ok with surface mount (SMT) rework.
Any idea if we can replace the dead chip with a chip from the same series.

Where exactly is the rom chip? There are only two chips in the board one is the mail controller (the big chip) and the other the VCM SH6960B E.

I think you should try to check it out online. I think you can run compatibility test online. Just give them the specs and they can run the tests for you. This is the easiest way to find the compatibility of the chip.

I had already said that the chip compatibility can be checked online. Yes you can do that. But then there is a small problem with that. What I am saying is, even if we actually run an online test, some chips just stay non compatible. I really do not know why, but that is the way it is.
