Hi there! I want to share my story, because it can lead some others to achieve some success too. The drive that I recovered from grave is a Samsung HD103UJ - P/N: HD103UL/BFG - REV.A - 2008.07 - 1TB

Last week I was lost because I got 2 HD's down on my RAID5 system, and one of those just fry up. So: 6TB of data lost. It smoked and smells. Evil nights without sleep came into my life after this happened. We always feel that this can never happen to us, but it happens. And when it happens...

Attached pics of my drive. The circle in red is the fried component that I believe is some kind of voltage controller for the plates/heads.

Some force in the universe lead me here to this forum. Spent a little hours reading and got some more pieces of information from somewhere else. I just read that almost all Samsung drives wont store adaptation on ROM/PCB, so you can do PCB swap easely. And that's it. I have a spare drive (identical) and swapped PCB with it and the drive is 100% OK. Obviously I'll not trust this drive anymore, so I'll backup my entire RAID on a new ones.

The lesson learned: samsung is more easy to recover/swap a PCB when it fry, but it fry more easely than others. On the other way, I never seen any Seagate drive fry, but it have more firmware problems. Pro/cons game.

But that's it. Believe and stay calm. One way or another you can always have a solution for everything.
