Hey y'all - I'm new to this forum, so bear with me!!

I had a situation... where someone accidentally plugged a 17v power supply into an external hard drive of mine. Not a good idea!! So now it's fried... I swapped PCBs thinking that if I got one with a manufacture date within two weeks of the one of my drive, maybe I'd be in luck!

No such luck. It's a Toshiba drive, and I've now learned that they calibrate each hard drive uniquely at the factory, and thus even the two hard drives coming out next to each other on the assembly line wouldn't be compatible...

Which brings me to figuring out which component on the PCB is fried, then replacing it. Luckily, since I already bought an identical PCB, I think I have all the replacement parts I need. My problem is being able to figure out which part(s) is burned out. Any ideas? I guess if I could get a schematic or something I could test each ocmponent with a multi-meter, but I wouldn't even know where to start to try to find one...

please send both image of your PCB to me by email. i will show you which one you need to swap. you'd betters use good PCB instead of.

So you think it's a better idea to replace the chip that stores the data that's linked to the platters rather than replacement burned out components on the original drive?
