Hello guys, when I found this website I thought that maybe I can find my way out of HDD apparent failure...
The HDD is powered, I hope it's not a mechanical failure, so I want to give a try replacing its PCB.
So I'd really appreciate if you have time to check in your old drawers if you have an old Maxtor DiamondMax 21 320GB PATA. Here's more details printed on the label:
S/N: 9QF02KH1
STM3320620A
P/N: 9DP04G-326
Firmware: 3.AAD
Date Code: 07122
Site Code: TK
6A320Y0
320 GB PATA
MANUFACTURED BY SEAGATE TECH. INTL.
Thanks in advance if anybody can help |

If your drive spins up and is not recognized, its most likely not a PCB problem, but internal problem in hdd. If you need your data refer to data recovery professionals. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

thanks for your reply. fact is that it keeps spinning and spinning, sounds like it's trying to start up but it doesn't. do you mean that, with a defective pcb, disk shouldn't spin at all?
i used to leave it powered days and days. some months ago it was raining like a storm, thunders and lighting; a brief interruption in power supply caused the spinning noise to change and, with my surprise, the hdd started... then one more power interruption and it stopped of course.. so i'm now waiting for a big storm but over here we have too many sunny days.. good for sunbathing but bad for my attempts.. |

hi,
may be it's bad PCB or power connector problem. as my experience. it always happen with seagate IDE hard drive. it can't spin up smooth at all or we can said it just trying to start(repeat give power) but can't start smooth.
please check it with other power connector and make sure power supply is fine. or you should take it to other PC for check before order PCB. i have this kind of PCB in stock. please feel free to contact me by email or MSN if any question. thanks. _________________ provide Hard drive PCB,entire drive/ Data Recovery service.... big HDD resource. talk to me immediately! sunnydreamspace@hotmail.com

That model is known for bad PCB's, but if it starts up, it's most likely some other, internal issue.
I would suggest to take it for diagnostics and make your decision based on outcome, instead of guessing on a possible problem.
Check your PM. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |
