Does anyone by chance have a WD800BB-00JHA0 HSBHYAJAA?

Is it possible to just the JB board on a BB drive if it's also HSBHYAJAA? It's only the memory on-board right?

Can you describe the failure symptom?

... then many times the problem is only a shorted TVS diode (D5 or D6 near the power connector), in which case it can simply be removed. There may also be an open, zero ohm, resistor next to each diode which can be replaced with a 2A picofuse (or smt fuse), or a short length of wire.

It's possible that the damage to your PCB wasn't contained by the protection diode.

In any case, if this were my board, I would locate the onboard switchmode regulators and test their load resistances for shorts. Then I would confirm that each MOSFET chopper and Schottky flywheel diode were OK.

I would then power up the board while removed from the drive. Measure each of the regulated voltages. There should be a Vcore supply (1.2V ?) for the MCU, and a Vio rail (2.5V or 3.3V ?) which powers the SDRAM and EEPROM chips. There will also be a negative supply (-4V or -5V ?) for the preamp inside the HDA. Try to measure each voltage at a accessible location where a slip of your probes is less likely to result in catastrophic consequences.

If all the voltages test OK, I would then connect the board to a PC and see whether it is detected by the BIOS. Some boards will identify themselves with a factory alias, others won't report anything unless connected to a HDA.

Finally, reattach the PCB to the HDA and power it up.
