When replacing a hard drive do I have to reinstall Windows, or would the windows software stay on the computer?
I have a Dell Optiplex gx270 with a bad hard drive and a bad motherboard! |

You need to reinstall if you're replacing the drive Windows was installed on. If it was the only hard drive in the system, you need to reinstall. |

Do you have a Windows install disc? Or a system restore disc? If so, use it. Otherwise, you will have to buy a new one. Sometimes when you buy new hard drives you can get Windows bundled with them for a lower price. (If you don't have a disc, I would check with Dell about what to do.) |

I have a disc that came with my Dell, but I wasn't sure if it had Windows XP software on it. I guess I can give it a try, and if that doesn't work, I am going over to Dell store.
The disc I have is the system recovery (driver recovery) disc. Do you think this has what I need? |
