Unscrewed the 4 torx screws, lifted the pcb off the drive and then swapped it with the other no problems. The two drives were purchased at the same time but had slightly different dates on them (2008.07 and 2008.06) but that didn't seem to matter. Both were Rev. A. and had F1_3D marked which I assume is some other kind of revision number.

95% of the time if PCB swap is required on modern HDD, then you will need to transfer the adaptives that are stored in the ROM as well, which is getting more difficult because they are storing these adaptives inside the MCU, which is tricky to solder, and if the CPU is cooked then your really up the creek!
