Hey Gang:

I need a Seagate ST3160023A (7200.7) logic board with firmware 8.01 (3.06 will work as well). I would also be happy to take the whole drive if you don't want to remove just the logic board and you know the drive guts are the only thing that's ailing (noisy boy when running?). And even if not known, we can find out together with a little effort - right.

I have data (pics & docs) that I would like to retrieve from the drive (hopefully in the near future) and since I am 100% certain it's the logic board, maybe someone can help me accomplish this task.

Thanks in advance with any help you can send my way.

Much appreciated!

jon

Jon,

I'm in the same boat. I've got a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160 gig ATA, model # ST3160023A firmware 8.01 with a fried controller board. I could smell it happening & there's a fried chip on it.

You say that a 3.06 controller board will work on this drive as well. How do you know this? If this is so, it may be easier to find a used drive to do the repair, 'cause I can't find any 8.01 drives.

Let me know if you've successfully recovered your data. I need to hear some encouraging words.

Lynn
