Hi,
I have a dead Seagate 7200.8 ST3250823A, and I'm told the problem is the logic board. I've been looking for a HD to cannibalize for the PCB, or just the PCB itself (see my post in "Hard Drives Wanted" forum), but all I can find, with the same firmware version, is a ST3250823AS hard drive, which is a SATA drive (and mine is an Ultra ATA). I know it's probably a really dumb question, but would the PCB from the SATA drive work on my HD? |

I was wondering - could I get a working HD, upgrade the firmware to the version I need (I need 3.06 but can only find 3.02, and 3.03), and THEN swap the working PCB for the non-working one? Has anyone tried this, and has it worked?
Advice please? I'm grasping at straws here. |

I was wondering where you happen to find that ST3250823AS board with firmware 3.01. I am looking for that hard drive component. Mine is burnt and the drive will not turn on or spin.

Firstly, SATA PCB cannot put back on the ATA HARDDISK
If you got a working PCB but a wrong firmware
Just do the ROM SWAP
Move the 8-legs small chip from the patient to the donor. |

Do you have the steps to do a ROM Swap? Or is it very difficult?

ROM SWAP is using a iron shoulder to shoulder out the small 8-legs chip of the bad PCB to put it to the donor.
The ROM is quite small, if you are not use to using a iron shoulder,
I think you can ask the electronic shop or cell phone repair shop to do it for you. For them it is not so difficult. |
