Thanks, OP. |

Most likely reading/writing heads have failed.
Provide more details on your drive.
Manufacturer, model and etc. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

I think the same think but is it a mechanical problem or electronic problem?

I inspected it and there is no marks of burnt components. Seems good... maybe not...

Yes, this drive is old, so heads are weak/dead 90%. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

Ok...
If I want to rescue the data on it, I have to find out another WD400BB-00CAA1 in working order and replace the platter ?
Do you know if the DCM code is important here or just the WD400BB-00CAA1 code is enough to find out the right HD clone?
(DCM = Drive Configuration Matrix)

Replacing a platter is a last thing you want to do on this drive.
This is not an easy task to do.
If you open your drive, recovery cost will probably double.
Find a data recovery pro in your area, is my only suggestion, otherwise put it aside until you save enough money for recovery service or forget about your data. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

The data on it is not valuable.
I would like to try as a technical trip or challenge.
Could you suggest me some guides or procedures to follow? |

I don't think you can.. and I don't mean you can't physically change out the platter or anything, but the minute you crack the shell and dust gets in, it's all over, or so I'm told. You can get to the platter easily enough, but when you do you better be prepared to use it for a coaster or something. |

if your drive is clicking then there are 4 possible causes...
Dead heads is one of them....
But it could be a simple firmware or pcb issue, so you can try and fix it yourself...could be the SA which is scratched. For this you can try a live pcb swap to get your data back...
You can get more details about this clicking sound here:
