I have this 4.3 Or 6.4 GB segate HDD. One day it made this Grrrrrr noise as BIOS tried to detect it. It made Grrrrrrr Grrrrrr like noise until BIOS gave it up. I mounted the drive vertically and it worked like a charm (connector side down). I tried it again using horizontally (flat) and it again made noises. Then again mounted vertically and it worked again.

It's seems that you have problems with hard disk's mechanisum.
Backup your data and return it (if hava warranty) or just keep the disk in good position and wait his dead  . |
