I hope that by embarrassing myself with this unusual story, I might get some ideas for resurrecting this HDD:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB
ST3500630A
P/N 9BJ046-305
Firmware #.AAE
Date Code 07363

I recently bought a Terabox II+ which takes up to four 3.5 SATA HDDs. It came with a 1TB HDD already fitted and when I got it home I went about installing my Seagate 7200 which had been living happily in an external USB enclosure.

I slid the 7200 into one of the slots, felt and heard it click into place (or so I thought at the time) and powered it up. The disks didn't mount. So, I pulled the two drives out to re-seat their connections and this is when i realised my DUMBASS mistake. My Seagate 7200 is a ATA drive and is not compatible with the Terabox which only takes SATA drives. Doh!!

The clicking noise was actually the sound of two of the pins bending. But other than this, there was no visable damage to the drive. So I gently bent the pins back into alignment with some needle nose pliers and put the 7200 back into its USB enclosure. Crossed my fingers and powered it up... No luck. The enclosure powers on and the drive spins up but doesn't mount.

The disk has lots of family movies on it, and I am keen to retrieve the data but have most of them backed up to DVD, so I'm not afraid of a bit of tinkering....

I have tried the drive in a couple of different enclosures, used different power and USB cables, and changed the jumpers about but cannot get it to mount on my system (iMac running 10.5.6).

To get me started, I'd be grateful for any advice on the likely damage and whether it might be fixable?

Its hard to advice anything, because actual problem is unknown.
If your problem is a board, then its fixable.
