Having a problem with above Internal IDE drive I have found this website and am posting the details of the problem in the hope someone may assist please.
I purchased the drive second-hand and then installed it on my PC as a data drive. After this I copied to the drive all my digital camera images (4 years worth which foolishly I did not back up) After this I was doing a mass transfer of some other files from the other installed hdd when suddenly the copy process halted. Upon rebooting the PC my Seagate Barracuda was no longer recognised by the PC . I noticed that when the PC is booted the Seagate will make a sound for some seconds but after a while goes quiet (being effectively dead).
Being a novice computerwise, I did not really know whether the problem was the PC or the drive. but now know the drive is faulty it wasnt the PC as I was able to try out (without success) the drive on another PC
Since the digital images stored on the drive are very important to me, I am asking please does anyone know whether there is any hope of recovering them? I do have another (working) HDD identical to this particular Seagate drive and wondered whether, in the event my faulty drive has some faulty component, the working drive can be in some way used to salvage the data on my faulty drive.
Any advice or assistance that can be offererd would be most gratefully received
Yours sincerely

Does your drive spin up?
If yes, does it make any clicking noise? _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

Hi - thank you for your kind reply.
What you mean by "spin up" I am not sure. When the power of the PC is switched on the drive does make what I can best describe as a "buzzing " sound (which I think is its normal sound) . Also I DO hear some clicking. After about 10 or more seconds though all sound finishes and it goes dead.
Please does this indicate anything about the drive ie as to whether the data is recoverable or what component on the drive would be replaced.
yours with thanks

I feel your pain...currently having a very similar issue with a 160GB IDE 7200.7. The difference is, my drive will still spin but makes a horrible clicking sound (very loud and piercing sound). Using an external USB case I can get Windows to see the data on the drive and can copy files off the drive if I'm willing to wait for an eternity and deal with the noise. I've tried the freezer trick and it sped up the transfer for a minute or two but didn't really make much difference. I'm interested to see what advice you get - specifically, what file recovery programs there are out there that are designed for recovering files from drives with potential/actual physical damage and not simply deleted or "lost" files (logical damage).
And if it makes you feel any better, among other things I have 16GB (10+ yrs) worth of photos alone that are stored on the drive. This is a lesson that I'll learn exactly once... |

Unfortunately, there is no program for physical recovery.
You need a help of a pro.
Every time you running your drive and freezing, you decreasing chances of recovery. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |
