Hey guys

I have an external HD with important data (i guess we all have important data). Well, i plugged it in to an external enclosure board (IDE to USB) and it started smoking, with in 1 minute I quickly disconnected the HD and now it doesn't spin up and doesn't work Sad.

It worked okay before, i just took it out of the external case because i needed to plug in another hd to extract data. I don't know what happened
the board went bad?
i plugged it in wrong?
or something else....

all i know is that i can't access my data on the drive because i am assuming the logic board is dead.

here is the info on the drive:
Maxtor
DiamondMax10
Model: 6L300R0
300GB PATA 133 HD

Code: BAH41G10

Logic Board: BEAGLE D4-D4
040121400

After googling and searching I found this logical board:
http://www.onepcbsolution.com/maxtor-diamondmax-10-1063000.html

I am thinking about purchasing this and trying it out but before i do that
Should i run any more tests?
Is there anything else i can do beside this?
Also anyone know how much it would cost to get this done professionally, just in case i mess it up?
Anything else i should be aware of about Maxtor drive... please share your thoughts and experience.

Thanks

Board is the first thing you should try.

If you mess it up, recovery might cost you hundreds of dollars, if not thousands.
