drive died on me the other day - it spins up - but bios does not recognize it

This does not sounds like a PCB problem.
Usualy when PCB fails, drive won't spin up.

it makes a sound when 'firing up' - not mechanical i think - i'll try and record it later today


any idea what's the problem then ?

I can't download this file for some reason.

You mentioned that drive spins up and now you saying it is trying to start.
Which one is it?

the click in the beginning is me inserting the power to the hdd


it's not spinning entirely - i think it's trying to start

I have heard it!

It seems like your disks has stalled.
This is very common with large size drives.
I just did couple of those recently.

Most likely motor has failed due to heavy weight of the disks.


Its not a PCB for sure.

You need a help of experienced person here.

You have to move disks from this drive to a new casing of the same model drive, which is very hard to do.
Disalligning of those disks in any direction will make recovery impossible.

This job is very hard even for a pro.
