|
|
Hello all, I recently repaired one of my hard drive, but the secondary drive is still dead. (Due to the one corner of the PCB being WAY burnt and melted!)
Here are my specs:
Western Digital model no. WD1600JB-00EVA0
Date: May 6, 2004
DCM: HSCHNTJAH
Info on the back of my board's sticker:
2061-001179-000DK XW 1K32 SW12 2 0005440 4445
I greatly appreciate any help! I recently repaired this PC's boot drive which was a Maxtor, but the WD is burnt, stinky plastic toast. _________________ If hard drives really were hard, they wouldn't break so much. |

If you upload a detailed photo, one of us may be able to help you repair your board. Many times the problem is only a shorted diode, in which case it can simply be removed. |

This model and WD in general does not commonly suffer from failed diodes, this is not a Seagate.
I don't understand why you are trying to confuse people? _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

I should be able to upload a detailed photo of mine when I go home from work. (Three day weekend, woot!) This photo isn't mine exactly, but it is very similar to my board. The area circled in red is...
*Mustafa voice from Austin Powers* "Very badly burned!"

IC chip burned, which is a common problem on that model drive. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

Update guys:
I managed to find one here in the US for sale, but I have held out on purchasing it. The WDC control chip on the one I'm looking at on ebay reads "WD70c22 GP ST1.3 " but my drive has a "ST 2.0" chip. Also, the DCM number is different-DSBACVJAA
I'm thinking this would be incompatible, right? I'm probably not going to win that anyway, so I'll keep shopping so to speak. I've already received some nice offers from some of you -thank you by the way. I'm probably going to respond after I figure out which one is exactly compatible. I wouldn't want to swap a U12 Rom chip and screw it up...
Will keep you all posted! _________________ If hard drives really were hard, they wouldn't break so much. |

As you know, I'm not a DR guy, so I am not familiar with all HD models. That said, I have seen plenty of WD's with shorted diodes.
Furthermore, unlike you and your colleagues, I am not camped out on this board with the sole purpose of touting my wares. I see this forum primarily as a helpdesk, rather than a marketplace. Most people asking for replacement boards are not aware that ROM transfers are sometimes required, and that this can often be done by their local TV/AV repair shop. They do not need to send their boards to China for this to be done. In addition, a person asking for a PCB may be doing so even when it is clear to the sellers that the problem is elsewhere. In such cases it would be unconscionable to sell them something that will not help them.
BTW, it makes no sense to say that "WDs in general do not commonly suffer from failed diodes". Protection diodes fail as a consequence of overvoltages. These are external events, not internal. WD users are no less likely to apply overvoltages to their drives as are Seagate users or Hitachi users or Samsung users. Or are you saying that WD drives in general do not have TVS diodes? If so, then you need to elaborate. AIUI, all WD models in recent years are fitted with these diodes. |

for swap this PCB. no need to match
1, chips model
2, DCM
3, you had to swap ROM chip. yeah. we understand may be you don't have experience on soldering operation. you can do it as "Fzabkar" said send it to shop for swap.
don't make it complex. hope my suggestion can help you. good luck! _________________ provide Hard drive PCB,entire drive/ Data Recovery service.... big HDD resource. talk to me immediately! sunnydreamspace@hotmail.com
