Hi
I also have the misfortune of a crashed hard disk, in fact 2 harddisks!
The cause: a faulty PSU!
I smelled the burning PCB of the Harddisk and new this was very bad.
SO I am looking for a replacement for the board for a WD10EADS (28/12/2009 ) and a STM325031as but also i have some questions.
After reading in your forum its not just a question of replacing the PCB with a new one?
There are unique codes in the circuit logic linked to the software on the disks?
I appreciate your advice in how to retrieve my data
Many thanks |

Can you provide full model number of your WD drive or a PCB number.
If you provide a picture of the PCB from your Seagate drive, it will help to locate PCB for this drive also. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

The fault is usually a shorted TVS diode, in which case it can simply be removed. This should cost you nothing.
Please upload detailed photos of your PCBs so that one of us can identify the faulty components for you.
Good luck. |

hi,
for WD hard drive. PCB model perhaps is 2060-701357-004(or -00X) REVA. this one without ROM chip that need transfer original FW from PCB or hard drive to good PCB. without this operation just simple swap PCB won't help at all. you can find out some data recovery company for help or send it to me for FW transfer or Rebuild.
for STM325031AS. you had to replacement ROM chip when you find out PCB same as your. for PCB you just take the same model of your will be fine(no need matching hard drive model or any code). normal it brand on PCB without chips side. format: 100XXXX REV:X
may be i have both PCB in stock fix for you need.
1, my PCB most is used. no brand new one. except which disconnect from new hard drive.
2, yeah. you are right. you mention unique code like a key and lock. without original or match one can't access service(FW area) & data area
for both PCB may be you can fix it by self. but before action. you had to think it over and over. as repair PCB you had to attach PCB on drive for test. this action may have chance make your drive worse(sometime this test may damaged head then you will had to spend more for data recovery) please feel free to contact me if any question by email/MSN or here. good Luck. _________________ provide Hard drive PCB,entire drive/ Data Recovery service.... big HDD resource. talk to me immediately! sunnydreamspace@hotmail.com

i looked at data recovery but they ask too much money so that is not an option
The seagate hdd seems to have a burned diode or capacitor at the contact interfaces.
The western digital has a burned "smooth chip"
So hare i must replace the pcb and transfer the rom , then we are sure it works?
i will post a picture of them this evening |

The Seagate probably only needs the diode to be removed. No need for a replacement PCB, two-way shipping, and a ROM transfer service.
In any case, a reasonable price for a ROM transfer would be $10.

You guys have specialised tools for that?
Also please dont take this wrong, but is everybody trusted here?

The OP writes ...
"I took the board to an electronics repair store and for $20 the ROM chip was swapped."
This company offers a ROM transfer service for $10, if you buy your board from them:

His pic of the PCB, please note that the component that is defect (diode?) is completely gone!
The Western digital has a sticker with number

His PIC of the PCB:
Here the smooth chip seems to have the damage:
