|
The mybook we bought a while ago is clicking about once a second. It has some vacation pictures I want to recover. I am a newbie to hard drive repair but pretty good with tools and my hands, and I don't want pay 100's of $s to fix this. I would really appreciate any pointers anyone can give me about attempting or implementing a fix. I hear the PCB goes out on these but another article said that clicking means I need new "heads"... sounds complicated but I am game to try. I took apart the mybook and it has a wd4000ks dated 17 aug 2006. Does anyone have a pcb close to this date?
Thx ahead of time,

Unfortunately, this does not sound like a PCB problem.
You should get good diagnostics done prior to any attempts of recoveries, otherwise you most likely will create a bigger problem. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

So I got a PCB from another WD4000KS-00MNB0 and it was about 6 months newer. I replace the U12 from the clicking drive on the new PCB and put this new pcb back on the clicking drive.... no joy still the 3 or so clicks and the driver is dead. The BIOS does not recognize the hard drive at all. I am considering switching the heads. I watched a couple of videos on youtube, but still I don't have a clean room or a special toolset. |

If you care for your data even a little, you should not try head replacement on Western Digital. This is a very difficult task even for a pro. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |
