Hey,

The chip near the motor connector on the logic board of this old 2nd hand 74GB Raptor fried.

Drive Model is : WD740GD
Firmware is : 50FLA2
Logic board serial # is : 2061-001213-100 AN XW 1S39 4YW6 1 0004300 5304

I'd like to have it running again, if possible.

The burnt chip is the SMOOTH spindle motor and voice coil controller.

When swapping boards, I believe you may need to transplant the 8-pin serial EPROM chip at U12 from patient to donor. It contains unique drive specific calibration data.

I'd first test the motor windings to make sure that none is open or shorted.

Try your local TV/audio repair shop.

A junior tech with steady hands and good eyesight could easily handle this job.
