Hi everyone.
Unfortuneally yesterday my Western Digital WD1200JB burned away. (The motor drive chip killed itself... )
There is important data on the drive, so I want to replace the PCB.
Luckily I know someone, who has also an WD1200JB and would sell it to me. The serial numbers of my PCB are:
Model: WD1200JB-00EVA0
Size: 120GB
PCB No: 2061-001179-000 DE
On the Board itself it is printed in green letters: 2060-001179-003 REV A
Main Controller IC: WD70C22 GP ST 1.3
HDD Motor Combo IC: L6282 3.2E
and the serial numbers of the "new" PCB are:
Model: WD1200JB-00EVA0
Size: 120GB
PCB No: 2061-001179-000 DK
Main Controller IC: WD70C22 GP ST 2.0
HDD Motor Combo IC: L6282 3.2E
As you can see they are almost identical... except for the DE in the PCB number and the 1.3 on the Main Controller IC. On the new one its DK and 2.0 ......
I wanted to ask you, if the drive would work again with the second PCB, or if its impossible because of the DE > DK and 1.3 > 2.0 issue.
What does "DE" and "DK" stand for?
Should I try the new PCB or could my drive be damaged?
I need those data...
Please help me.

Hi!
I have the exact same question. Can you enlight me on your findings? Did the "newest" PCB worked on your "old" WD1200JB?
Cheers |

Unfortunately it didn't work. I gave up restoring the HDD after some time. I think you've got to use *exactly* the same PCB as the original to recover your HDD. I think it's stupid that an almost similar PCB doesn't work... maybe the main controller ic version was the problem in my case.
But nevertheless I wish you good luck in finding an replacement if your data was important. Maybe you find one that's working. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
best wishes - AlphaFoxx |
