I have a WD5000AAJS that has gone on me. I need to see if a logic board swap could help.

Here's the symptoms.

My computer was randomly freezing at one point. I had a hard time using it to serve movies as the computer would freeze and playback would freeze from on my HTPC. The computer eventually became more unstable to the point where i couldn't consistently use it.

I pulled out the drive and it was HOT, unusually hot. I let it cool down, plugged it in, and it would work for a short time then stop working. Since I've been unable to get it to work.

Upon power up, the drive spins up, and makes 5 "seek" noises then a whirr then spins down and back up to a constant spin rate and is inaccessable. NOTE: the "seek" noises are not hard "clicks", I've had a hard drive that clicked before.

Would a logic board swap + firmware rebuild help this drive? If so, does anyone have the board I need? Thanks in advance!.

It does not sound like a PCB problem.
Your drive has developed either bad sectors or a scratch, which does not allow proper reading of the media.
At this point you might want to consider getting pro help or replace your drive and move on.
If your drive does not click, it might be very affordable at this point to recover data from it.
