Hi,

I have a WD2500JB-00REA0 which burned, I opened the board and I clearly see that the "SMOOTH - L6283 - 1.3" chip burned (and it smells too ...).

So I have kinda important data on that drive and am confident that the disk is intact.

I found severals board but none has the same DCM # as mine.
So I would have to replace the U12 chip from my board on the new one I would buy.

BUT thing is I found other boards for
WD2000BB-22RDA0, DCM: DSCACTJAH (same DCM than me!!!)
instead of WD2500JB-00REA0

Would this board work with my HD ?

Also I found one :
HDD, 250GB, WD2500JB-00REA0, LBA 488397168, DCM: DSBHCTJAH

Same model, same LBA and DCM mine=DS[CA]CTJAH - only 2 letters differs ...
Would that board works ?

Any suggestions?
I am at ordering one of same model-firmware on ebay and try to find a place where to switch U12 chip...
Would that work?
Chances of sucess?

Thanks

Simple Board swap will not work, even if you match DCM number.

Check your pm.

Hi,

Try to find a matched donnor PCB, which have same PCB number "2060-******-00* REV A"

Then swap rom chip before swap PCB.

Take care and Good luck!

Eric

Only "2060-******-00*" numbers have to fit for compatible PCB?

Cauz I found all matching numbers PCB but the last part "REV-A" which is always different than my dead PCB !

And I doubt I would find one matching the last part ... !

Sunny told me he never matched that number tho to make sucessful rom swap ...

Are you sure of that info Erin Lee?

With the "same" PCB number "2060-******-00* REV A" I found this http://tux-tech.com/westerndigital.php?id=93 that is a Western Digital WD1200JB-00FUA0 HSBACTJAH 2060-001179-003 REV A 120.0 GB:

    WD P/N: WD1200JB-00FUA0
    DCM: HSBACTJAH
PCB Etched code: 2060-001179-003 REV A

Will this board work on ArchSpy WD2500JB HD?

This board surely wouldn't work imo.

I am pretty sure as I heard everywhere else that the Firmware also has to match first which means all WB2500JB-00REA0 would have to match at least and then I don't know about the PCB # we are speaking about if it has to match or not...

@ ArchSpy

1 - Electronic repair shop can do the ROM swap.

2 - I saw a story at http://www.deadharddrive.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=60.

In my case, I had success with matching a PCB from a WD2500JB-00EVA0 drive to my WD2500JB-00FUA0 drive. However, the PCB number was the same on both.

I was led to believe that when I found a matching PCB, I might have to swap a firmware chip from my bad PCB to the replacement PCB (see my response at http://www.deadharddrive.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=52 ). While the firmware chip swap might be necessary in some cases, in mine it was NOT required.

It was correctly recognized as a WD2500JB-00FUA0 (even though the PCB came from a WD2500JB-00EVA0). I may just have been very lucky to not need a chip swap.

Interesting !

I'll try to find a matching board with this number than... !

I wonder why sunny told me he never matched this # and it worked with only Model-firmware and a swap of the U12 rom... !

Couldn't be possible that the U12 rom contains the information which differenciate the PCB # we are trying to match ?
And then swapping would bring that # a no need to match ?

One doubt arise me on the link I gave. Is he referring to the PCB Etched code or the PCB Label code (he refers the "(IDE) white bar code label", and then the "PCB#") Would he meant the same thing?
