The PCB # above is from the sticker on the board. I didn't see the number made into the board. I assume this is actually the PCB #
Number in the board is PCB#: 2060-001209-004 REV A

I have a problem with a similar drive. The hard drive was fried by power supply that burned up. The hard drive will not power and I would like to replace the PCB.

I have a

Manufacturer: Western Digital
Model: WD800JB-00FMA0

There is a PCB available from a

Should this combination work to recover data?

I swapped the boards, the hard drive is recognized by the computer (I can see it in the BIOS and it goes through new hardware wizard) but a drive letter is not assigned and I cannot see it in Windows Explorer. Sad

Is a swap of ROM chips what is needed? If so, which of the chips is the ROM chip? I believe there are at least 4 chips on the board.

It's a U12 chip with 8 legs. Be careful though.....

Thanks everyone for your input. I took the board to an electronics repair store and for $20 the ROM chip was swapped.

I am pleased to report that the drive is now operational! I have copied all data to a good drive and will proceed with backups now that I have added more hard drive space to my computer.

I have a Maxtor hard drive that suffered the same fate as my Western Digital. I purchased a board but I have the same issue where it spins but is not read. I don't think there is anything on the drive but I may open a new thread to get some info on a possible ROM chip swap.

If a drive spins, but is not detected, then the most likely fault is the HDA, not the board.

However, depending on the model, your Maxtor may be afflicted with the 7200.11 BSY firmware bug, in which case there is a straightforward DIY fix.
