Please help.
My imac wouldn't start last week. Found out it was the hard drive, died after two years and change. Data recovery estimate was $900. Not sure if I wanted the data that badly, so I put a new one and its working fine. I tried connecting the old drive via usb and esata to another mac, and a pc running windows 7. In both cases it sounded like it spun up and then after 1-2 minutes it got quieter but not entirely silent. I then put it my pc connected to the internal sata port. In the bios start up, the healthy drive showed up fine, but when it got the the one from the imac, it said SMART status failed. Could it be the logic board or is it worse than that? Can I remove the board to inspect it without causing further damage? If its the logic board what info on the drive do I need to post to see if I can find one to buy to try a swap?
The model is: WD3200AAJ-40RYA0

It is definitely not a PCB. SMART is group of internal programs that monitor drive's heath. You drive had too many internal errors, that is why it gives you this message. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |
