Thank you all for your replies.
As Harddrivespecialist indicated, it was a TVS short on the 5V line. I removed the surface mounted part and the drive immediately worked. I backed up all data and disconnected the drive.
My only issue now is whether to replace the shorted piece or just write the HD off as "to be used only in case of emergencies where reliability is not necessary". |
