hello

i have a Western Digital WD2000 IDE drive that i cant get to come on. it doesnt do anything when i plug it in, no noise, nothing. i have read around the internet that it can either be the spindle motor or the logic board. i have no idea which it is.. i was hoping someone here would be able to tell me that. the last time it worked, i believe it was in a computer that wasnt hooked up for a long time. it was used in that PC until the PC was replaced, then the PC was unplugged and set aside. when i went to use the hard drive in my USB enclosure, nothing happened. i also jumped a PSU and plugged it in and it still does nothing, and same results when plugging into a pc. it didnt make any noise, doesnt appear or sound to power on/up. if it is the logic board or spindle motor, would it be worth replacing, and also, where would i get these parts from?

p.s. i seen a thread on here about a similar drive, but the links werent helpful becaus eone was dead and the other was a part for a drive slightly different.

the hard drive MDL:WD2000BB - 22GUC0

thanks!

Remove PCB, its very easy to do.
Check for burned chips.
If you see any, let us know. Motor on this models do not usually burn.
You will get a lot of offers for parts, so you don't have to worry about that.

hi, thanks for the reply!

i took off the board and i see that no chips are burnt, but there are many discolored (burnt colored) sections of traces on the top (or underside, where no chips are). its obviosly burnt. id like to know if its worth fixing, and where i can get the part.
