Hi,
I have it, but Rom program of this model was wrote in Main chip, it is hard for personal to swap the Main chip without any tools. So I suggest you to find a pro near you.

I have the same model Hdd, fried it using the wrong power supply, smelly of burning plastic etc and doesnt spin. I have just bought another hdd of the same model from Ebay, i intend to change the logic board. What do you mean by the Rom being stored in the main memory? How will this effect me changing the logic boards and will it mean that it wont work.

He means that ROM (Unique microcode) stored in a processor on a board. In order for your replacement board to work, you have to reprogramm new board with info from an original board. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

So either although the firmware on the hdds, and the numbers on the logic boards match it wont work when i swap?
Also, what do you mean by swap the big chips on the pcb? This is sounding a little bit beyond me i think? _________________ Ed |

No, you need special equipment to do it. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

I don't have Rom, I only have the PCB, As harddrivespecialist said: you need the special equipment to do it, it's correct, and this equipment costs thousands USD, so find a pro is the right way, I think. _________________ HK MingDi electronics Co., Ltd. http://www.hkmingdi.com/enindex.asp

This doesnt seem to be true! Like i said well above i fried my WD5000AAVS - 00G9b0 i matched the number on the baords up and just switched one for the other, i did have to buy a replacement drive from ebay and get it shipped from the US to the UK, costing me about £100 but when i replaced one for the other it just worked!
Was so chuffed that it just fired up and the PC found it like a normal external HDD, it was completely dead before, smoke, burnt plastic smell and no sound at all! I overpowered it. _________________ Ed |
