Hi there,

I have a problem at hand with my HDD.

I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7, 200GB.
Model ST3200822A
Firmware: 3.01
Logicboard number: 100299703D

I use it as an external HDD using a IDE to USB convertor. It was working fine till one day, through My Computer-> Manage-> disk management, i realised that it has another 200GB marked as unallocated.

This is on top of the 200GB that was allocated and working, so greedy greedy me thought that if i could format that part of the disk and get it working, i could get another 200GB free!

I tried that, it failed and now, when i try to re-access the HDD, it shows as 400GB unallocated, and no matter what i did, i could not get it to work. I even made a desperate attempt to perform a quick format, which failed as saying that the disk is unallocated, hence could not format

Has anyone encountered such a problem before?

Anyone thinks this could be a logic board problem?

It is not a board problem.

That family of Seagate could not be more then 250GB.
Somehow your SA "Service Area" got corrupted.

You have to try recovery software and copy data to another drive.
If it won't work, look for a data recovery pro near you.

Looks like i will not be getting my DVD collection back, no way they are worth the thousands of dollars the recovery software cost.

Unless anyone here knows of a cheaper recovery software option.

It might not cost you thousands of dollars at the moment, but will cost few hundred dollars for sure.
With every attempt, you might bring a cost of recovery up to thousands, so be carefull and do some research.
