Model #: ST3300631A
F/W: 3.04
Date Code: 06196
Site Code: WU

This was in a Seagate external hard drive that belonged to a non-techie friend. I tried the 2 Firewire ports and the 1 USB port on a Mac, a Linux box, and various Windows OSes and the drive was not seen. Removed the drive from the enclosure and tried to use SpinRite, Hirens, and regular OSes to view the drive. The BIOS showed unknown device when plugged into the master or slave cable and jumpers changed. I tried other drives in the original enclosure and those were seen fine.

The hard drive powers up and gets really hot but cannot be seen. My thought is if I changed the board out and put another in then it may make the drive visible. Any other thoughts or questions, please let me know. My friend needs the data on it pretty bad but not bad enough to spend bank on recovery.

This does not sound like a board problem.
Seagate boards tend to burn a lot, but your drive would not spin up at that time, otherwise Seagate boards pretty stable.

I would recommend to get accurate diagnostics and go from there.
