I had (have?) a Western Digital 1TB My Book Home Portable Hard Drive. I inadvertently plugged my MSI Wind 20V supply into it, and naturally it has gone dead even though there are no visible signs of damage on the PCB. I bought a Vantec NexStar-CX external enclosure (USB 2.0 interface), and inserted the drive into it. Unfortunately, it didn't even stir! The blue bezel on the casing only flickered on for an instant (and did each subsequent time I turned it on and off). I originally assumed the WD power supply had fried and that the drive would still be OK once removed and plugged into the new enclosure

Have I l killed the hard drive? Have I lost the information on it? Or am I really dumb and have omitted to do something silly and minor?

Help please!

Peter,

Your drive has suffered a power surge and most likely it killed a board on your drive.

You still have a big chance to recover your data. New board is needed to revive your drive, plus very important info has to be transfered from original board to a new one. Unfortunately, special equipment and knowladge is needed to transfer that information.

I did the same thing with the 500gb hdd of the same type. I just got a new pcb of exactly the same model. what data needs to be put across and is there any way of me doing this?
