Managed to get hold of one from here - (had to take the whole drive).

I saw that there was one just after I posted here. It was listed as WIP (work in progress - basically they ensure the drive is fully working and undamaged... afaics anyway). I checked back periodically and the drive became available recently. I ordered it yesterday and it arrived today.
I took the circuit board off (invalidating the 3 month warranty that I got). I put the board on the dead drive I had and am able to access the data on that without any problem. 
Cost was £35, delivery by courier £9.99 and vat was added making a total of £52.86 and it was worth it to retrieve nearly 300Gb of data.  |
