I had a 200 GB Maxtor Ultra 133/ATA recently dead due to a electrical break out. Cannot find an exact same logic board for its 040111300(agere Ardent C8-C1). But I have another logic board 040111200(Ardent C5-C1) at hand which is on my other same model Maxtor Ultra 133/ATA drive.
So can I use the 040111200 board to replace the 040111300 one and get my data out of that dead drive? Is there any one who try to do this? It looks that a lot of Maxtor drives get the similar problem.
Thanks! |

I think the numbers you are referring to are from the Argent controller chips and if so are not the firmware versions, which are listed on the drive label as "Code". Mine was YAR41BW0 on 120 and 160gb drives. I think it likely that your firmware version has similar nomenclature.
At any rate, I did a board swap with these and the drives had the same Argent chips yours had, i.e I had two drives with matching firmware versions but different controller chips and the swap worked. I posted a more detailed account on on the More Stories thread. |
