So my harddrive isnt dead...but something is a foot. I took this hard drive out of a pc i had where the motherboard fried out. Its a 250 Western Digital. I was told they used Maxblast 4 to get the pc to be able to see the drive. Everytime i hook it up windows XP wants to format it. Its got like 30 to 40 gbs of data on it that i want to take off. I have the free space on anouther hard drive to transfer it. But i can nopt see the files. Any ideas?
Some suggestions have been to boot with Ubutu but i dont know much about linux based OS.
any help will be appreciated |

If you disk is detecting in the BIOS (and not making strange sounds etc) then it sounds to me that your MBR/MFT is corrupt. This could well be caused by bad sectors on your drive.
If you have any questions, just ask,
