I have an old WD 80GB EIDE drive that burnt its motor control chip. The info on the drive is not that important but it would be nice to get some of the data back.

My question is, does anyone hear know what PCB I need or do any of you have one? I’m not a fan of replacing the firmware chip as my soldering skills will probably let me down. I have included images of the firmware and S/N.

Thanks for the help guys.

you might need to SWAP the U2 chip

the SST chip

Oh man, 40 pins Shocked

The other way is find the same HDD

and write back with PC-3000

But I wonder if you can get the firmware.

You can refer to this link
http://forum.hddguru.com/hard-disk-drives-repair-and-data-recovery-f1/western-digital-wd1000bb-32ccb0-need-logic-board-t8290.html

And someone said for old harddisk just do the PCB swap should be OK

Before I have do a PCB SWAP for a 40GB MAXTOR without matching any thing and it works. Well just for you reference.

Burnt chip is labeled as:

A guy before me put his hands on the drive and try to swap the card but when they called me both drives (new and damaged) were damaged Razz
