My WD1200 Caviar started making a clicking sound, and not knowing what this was I failed to stop using it, or backing up the files. "lesson learned"
Now the drive just clicks and computer fails to start up. Even if the drive is used as a slave, it's a no show. I do have use of a clean room where I work, Laminar Flow work stations, finger cots, Vacuum and such. However, after reading some of the posts, I would rather not put the drive on the operating table under the direction of an unskilled surgeon such as myself, with no process instructions until all other options have been exhausted.
Is there a chance that a PCB swap may work? If so, Here are the specs of my drive.
MDL: WD1200JB-75CRAO
Date: 30 May 2003
DCM: HSEHNA2AH
There is a sticker on the PCB near the connector with the following:
*2061-001102-EA XW 1737 WKQS A 0007480 3487
This seems to be an upgrade, as the actual part number printed on the PCB itself is 2060-001102-003
What numbers do I need to match exactly for a PCB swap to work?
Any Help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I do have other old small drives that are functioning properly to practice on, if I do need to resort to the clean room.
Thanks,
Mobetz
