Hello.

I managed to find a hard drive with the same board as my dead one on eBay, and just performed a control board transplant. Unfortunately, it looks like I now need to get the DCM numbers to "match".

The new board looks good in all other respects - the drive spins up normally, no strange noises... it just doesn't correctly detect in my machine, which is why I suspect the DCM is the problem;

The original drive is a WD800JB-00ETA0 with DCM # DSCHCTJAH

I took the board off a replacement drive, model WD800JB-00ETA0 with DCM # HSBHCTJCH

Three stinkin' letters difference.

At this point I'm rather stuck - assuming the problem is the firmware on the new board needing to match the original board's settings, what's the easiest way to correct this? Is there a way to do it via software perhaps?

If your PCB matches, just swap the Flash Memory chip and your drive will work again.
The DCM (Drive Configuration Matrix) number pertains to the drives configuration and is mostly used for matching media, pre-amp and head types.

I'm not sure which one is the flash memory chip, nor am I all that sure on how to remove it from the dead PCB and successfully reattach it to the live one. Is there a how-to posted on the subject?
