Hi,
First, thanks to the mod/admin for approving my account. I was hoping to get some advice/assistance with a recently failed Western Digital laptop hard drive.
The drive was my primary drive that I use for some production work, and also contained sole copies of some live recordings, along with data from my 9-5 job. Over the weekend, the laptop seemed to crash while running, and then I started to hear a repetitive click/whirring upon restart, without the system hanging and the OS not loading. A check of the BIOS showed an error code with the message that the hard drive needed replacement; removing the drive from the laptop and placing in an external USB caddy attached to another computer didn't work either, as it won't even show up in the device manager.
I tried some of the standard "tricks" that I came across during web searches, to no effect, and then found this forum. I've yet to physically open the drive, but was hoping that someone here might be able to help with recovery tips or suggestions.
Drive information is as follows:
WD1600BEVS-60RST0 Scorpio 2.5"
date: 27 Sep 2007; product of Thailand
160.0 GB
DCM: FBCTJHBB
PCB tag (on board): 2060-701450-011 REV A
PCB tag (white sticker): 2061-701450-Z00 AF (also "XT 3W27 XB0B 5 0005120 8" underlined, followed by 125)
Thanks for any replies... |

Don not open your drive in any circumstances.
There is no tricks involved in recovering your files, you can only hurt your chances of recovery.
Your drive is displaying typical failure, which is read/write head failure or possible media damage.
I am afraid your only option left is to find reliable and inexpensive Data Recovery place to recover your data. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

Well, that's discouraging to hear... I was hoping for some sort of last ditch way to save/recover my music without paying the high professional fees, but I guess not.
Regardless, I appreciate the reply. |

I see that your company services New England (I actually know the Allston location), but are there any options closer to Arizona? |

The problems that might occur is that of the reader head, or the disk fragmentation. First, try to check if the reader is working properly. If that is working fine, then just try to get it defragmented by any service center specialist.
