Hi,

I'd like your help and opinion to recover the data on my HD.

First, let me give you the detail of the HD:

Hard drive: Seagate 500G 2.5"
Model number: ST9500325ASG

Here is the issueS (yes, it's plural !). So, one day, i'm using my laptop and suddenly, my computer froze. I restart it and bang, nothing start. I can hear some kind of clicking but not sure so I turn it off and get it to a 'specialist'.

After a few days, they recover some parts of it but not all. They pretty much got lazy from the point I paid them (I'm in Shanghai).

I get the HD to another more serious repairer. The diagnosis comes and here it is:

- Hard drive was opened and heads were changed.
- The first diagnosis (by others) was wrong. The primary issue of your hard drive is not heads crashed, it's PCB problem. PCB is the electrical board on the back side of the hard drive ( the green stuff). Just changing the PCB would have been ok.
- As the heads were already swapped, the hard drive is now very difficult to read. It needs a long time to access the data.

It took about 10hours just to read about 2%.

At this stage, I'm seriously pissed off with the first guys and trying to find a solution to get this sorted. Would changing the PCB solve the issue ?

What else can I do to increase the chance to recover my data ?

I'm seriously open to any advices.

Changing PCB won't help you.
You have to take your drive to professional data recovery place for recovery.

The fact that your drive recognized and you have/had access to some files tells me that everything is fine with your PCB. You have either Bad read/write head/s or a lot of bad sectors on your drive, possibly little scratch on platters.

There has to be a professional Data Recovery company in Shanghai, but if you want to send it to us, we will be glad to take a look at it.

Replacement the PCB will not solve the problem below:
1. The drive will power up normally (no ticking noises, errors etc) but will not be recognized by the computer;
2. The drive will power up normally and be recognized correctly but will report a size of 0 bytes;
3. The drive will power up but report SMART errors on boot;
