|
|
Hey, I'm in search of a logic board for a Western Digital Caviar Green (1TB, 32MB Cache). The drive is still under warranty and the 30 day store return, but WD will only replace the entire drive and I have data on there that i really need. The drive was filled when it suddenly lost power.
Model: WD10EADS-00L5B1
Date: 06 APR 2009
Photo of the board
Photo of the sticker
I have three of these same drives, but they appear to be different revisions. even though the boards all say "2060-701590-000 , REV A", this broken one has a "Winbond" chip whereas the working drives all have a "Samsung" chip.
Thanks for any help. |

success!
i was able to fix the drive myself. i took a risk and baked the board in my toaster oven for 10 minutes at 390°F, then let it sit and cool for an hour.
i put it back together, threw it into a usb enclosure and the drive powers up and is fully accessible. i am in the process of backing up all the data on it as i type this.
woohoo! |

Hi Juninf
I am exactly in the same situation as you. I have a
Model: WD10EADS-00L5B1,
Date: 05 Mar 2009
that i have had for 2 months and had consolidated my data into for backup. however I now cannot access it as I get a message saying: 4th Master disk error at startup and the Bios cannot even see this drive.
the chip is same as what you have quoted.
did you just bake the board?
I have another drive exactly the same but the board is a different revision.
your comments will be appreciated as you have have this issue a few months ago - this is very dodgy
thanks.

If your drive spins up, its most likely not a board problem.
Can you describe behavior of the drive in details? _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

Thanks for your reply.
This is what happens on a step by step basis:
1. I have the WD10EADS-00L5B1 HDD connected to SATA1 and a TSSTCorp DVD ROM connected to SATA2.
2. I switch the PC on and have the BIOs startup window come up. It displays the Motherboard descriptions and the following text: "Press Del to run setup Press Tab to display BIOS Post Message".
3. I wait ~1-2 mins
4. The BIOS post message is displayed with the following:
"...
Initializing USB Controllers .. Done.
4096MB OK (Installed Memory Size:4096MB)
USB Device(s): 1 Keyboard, 1 Hub
Auto-Detecting SATA1..IDE Hard Disk
Auto-Detecting SATA2..ATAPI CD-ROM
SATA2: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223F SB03
Ultra DMA Mode-5
Auto-detecting USB Mass Stroage Devices ..
00 USB mass stroage devices found and configured.
3rd Master Hard Disk Error
Press F1 to Resume"
5. If I press F1 it says:
"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media is selected Boot device and press a key"
I can feel that the HDD is spinning.
Your comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

if you don't hear cliking sound, then it is firmware problems, but you must check your sata cable and hdd on another computer.
if it is firmware problems, then you need special tools for repairing hdd |

as rule, for solve firmware problems, recovery company use software hardware tools - PC3000. This tool costs about 2000-8000$. Download this tool from internet - impossible, because this tool for work use special pc-card. |

Hello Together !
Greetings from Germany!
Excuse me for my english....
I have the same Problem as described from asterix.
My HD is also a WD10EADS-00L5B1 from 06.04.2009
The disk spins up but is not recognized from Bios.
Tested it in different environments.
Is it possible to get it to work again, by changing the Board (if i get the same one)?
Thanks for answers in advance! |

I doubt its a board issue...
but even if its a board issue, just replacing a board won't work, because board carries unique info about your drive on those models. You will have to find someone with a special equipment to reprogram your new board with adaptive data from a original board.
Does your drive click when powered on?
Its most likely you have internal problem in your drive. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

I can reprogram new board, but I am afraid you just going to waist your money doing this.
Your drive must have an internal issue, which might not be to expensive to fix.
I would suggest you take it to a professioanl data recovery shop and have them diagnose exact issue with it. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |
