I hate to slam an entire culture, but I would NEVER send anything to a repair or data recovery service here in Thailand. Folks I've worked with have taken laptops into supposedly qualified repair shops, and been told it takes 3 weeks just to run a diagnostic. They'll install new OSs over the old ones, not make backups of data, all kinds of things that western shops would never dream of doing, then hand it back to you and shrug.

The infrastructure and educational background here is SO far behind the west that I'd never consider using a shop here, regardless of the lower price.
