I bought a hard drive. When plugging it in, it says that it's installing and that it completes. But when I go to My Computer, it doesn't show up as a drive. I am unable to access it. Please help! Also, I have an old hard drive that messed up. You can hear it spinning but it gives me an error. It says G:\ is not accessible The request could not be performed because of an I\O device error. I have a lot of pictures backed up on this drive and I could really use some help recovering them. It is the same model as the new one I bought.

Can you see the new drive in Disk Management? Have you initialised and formatted it?

Does the old drive appear in BIOS with its correct model name and capacity?

i figured out the new hardrive. Yes the bios is reading the old hardrive info with the right volume and model. and it spins. any idea what could be wrong with it?

Can you see it in Disk Management? Have you run any diagnostics on it, eg Western Digital's Data LifeGuard, HD Sentinel, HDDScan?
